How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
Kiri will replace sources of GHGs, by reducing the amount of fossil fuels used in transport, both in charging and direct use/refuelling. Kiri’s electric motorcycles have zero tailpipe emissions compared to a petrol motorcycle which emits an average of 46.5 g/km CO2 for a typical 150cc petrol motorcycles. (https://www.globalfueleconomy.org/media/461029/africa_erc-gfei-kenya-final-narative-report-23-07-2014-_2_.pdf). Therefore, every km on an electric motorcycle leads to a reduction in carbon emissions. The average distance travelled per day is 100Km which is (4.65kg CO2 per day multiply by 20 working days a week 93kg multiply by 12 months is 1.116 tons of CO2 per bike per year). (https://carolofafa.com/files/opportunity-and-investment-potential-for-electric-vehicles-in-kenya-manufacturing-africa-october-2021.pdf) To date Kiri has saved approximately 6.348tones of CO2. Kiri has over 500,000km on commercial piloting to test our vehicles. Our impact on overall society is cleaner air with less polluted cites and towns as well as lower youth unemployment benefiting society through lower crime.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Kiri EV is converting last mile 2 & 3 wheeler mobility into electric powered. Kiri is looking to address barriers to e-mobility adoption, using 2 & 3 wheeler electric vehicles that are designed for use in African terrain both urban and rural. Kiri will also build local capacity to maintain and service the vehicles which a major barrier to adoption of EVs. Kiri’s Pay-as-you-earn lease-to-own vehicle financing Kiri makes it more affordable to own an electric 2 & 3 wheeler. Kiri will also set up reliable and affordable charging stations, ensure the PayGo costs cover charging and basic service of the vehicle, and enable dual use of charging infrastructure. This ensures the infrastructure does not lie idle when there are no vehicles charging thus incentivising partners to set them up and rapidly increase our charging network. Kiri is also creating new jobs from renewable charging hubs which create new income streams and opportunities, our target being women and youth who will operate kiosks that can be converted into solar charging hubs. Kiri’s easy to ride and affordable ownership schemes make it easier for youth and women to own an electric-motorcycle for productive use as well extra income from charging hubs.
