Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
We restore land in rural communities and work to reverse the previous destructive effects of fossil fuel extraction and industrial agriculture. Federal mineland reclamation requirements have low ecosystem restoration standards, and many of these sites have been inadequately cleaned up. Rural US areas have been impacted by soil degradation, rural flight, and loss of energy sector jobs. We create economic opportunities for landowners and planting / tree nursery jobs. In the longer term, our restoration projects provide community co-benefits including opportunities for ecological education and recreation on the land, as well as improved soil and water quality and biodiversity. Our vision for mine land restoration projects is to transform abandoned, toxic land into thriving forest carbon projects while generating economic value for communities and landowners. In doing so, we aim to reverse the legacy of environmental injustice left by strip mining and its externalities.
