The zero-waste model promotes equitable and inclusive solutions that address the environmental and social impacts of waste mismanagement and promotes a just transition from a harmful linear economy to a safe and toxic-free circular economy.

As a community-based model, it's run by Zero Waste Cooperatives from a particular area mostly underrepresented and formed by Waste Pickers, women, and Youth.
Zero Waste Cooperative members are trained in a series of various training including management of composting, recyclables, residuals, and domestic hazardous waste and also, financial management (keeping financial records, etc.)

The target is to make zero-waste cooperatives self-standing in running and managing all zero-waste model-related activities and improve their livelihood and environment. 

Through this project, over 90 vulnerable communities in Dar es Salaam, Arusha, and Zanzibar (waste pickers, women, and youth) are permanently employed by waste cooperatives, and they are recognized and respected more than before.

Their living conditions have improved, and now the communities and other stakeholders like banks, and the government recognized their contributions towards building the nation and climate movements
