Obillion is a woman led company with a majority women board and team. In addition to the general sustainability benefit of cultivated meat production, a major benefit is the ability to pursue greater food independence in light of the serious risks that climate change poses to food security and nutrition. [1]  

Communities and nations in arid climates cannot produce the high-quality proteins required to achieve food independence and meet the calorie needs of its people. Conventional beef is highly inefficient (it takes 50 calories in to get 1 calorie of meat out), and is the single biggest food contributor to climate change ~7%. 

Already parched arid climates will experience an greater decline in precipitation in decades ahead due to climate change, making regional food production even more challenging. With some nations, like those in the GCC, in Asia, and in many countries of the Global South, already importing up to 90% of their food, in-country production is necessary and must be substantially expanded to avoid greater health, security, and political risk. Nations with arid climates urgently seek resource-efficient solutions for food production to achieve food resilience, improve health, and enhance political stability.
