Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Anticipating Africa's growing youth population (projected at 850 million by 2050), Powered-Up aims to create green jobs in the solar energy sector, simultaneously alleviating youth unemployment (currently at 83% in sub-Saharan Africa) and empowering underrepresented groups. Powered-Up empowers traditionally underrepresented groups in the climate movement by tackling two key challenges: energy access and youth unemployment. With 71% of Kenyans lacking electricity and 83% of new entrants in Sub-Saharan Africa facing unemployment, Powered-Up offers a dual solution. It establishes solar charging stations, creating jobs in installation, maintenance, and distribution, particularly for young people. Additionally, it trains over 5,000 Kenyan youth, including women, in manufacturing, using, and maintaining these stations, equipping them with valuable skills for the growing solar energy sector. This empowers youth, promotes gender equality, and provides reliable energy to underserved communities, all while contributing to a cleaner future.
