Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Savory’s approach is farmer first on a global level. We recognize that the people who manage land and produce food around the world often come from underrepresented, under-resourced, and/or underserved communities with regards to livelihood (farming, herding, pastoralism), ethnic or racial group, gender, and socioeconomic context. Many of our projects are implemented in under-resourced countries or regions where severe land degradation has contributed to food and water insecurity, megafires and severe drought, human health decline, and social migration and unrest. We are highly intentional in directing funds where they are most needed for maximum impact—on the ground, in the communities where we work—and keeping overhead and administrative costs to a minimum. Our approach intentionally and strategically connects ecology and human economics for the benefit of the farmer/herder communities: by connecting measurable land regeneration to potential to access new market opportunities through our Land to Market program, we aim to increase profitability for farmers all over the world and thus incentivize continued regenerative management of land. Regenerating land and soil health, in turn, helps mitigate the effects of climate change while also setting in motion a virtuous upward cycle of human societal health, especially in under-resourced countries and communities.
