This accelerator empowers overlooked communities by streamlining financing for biodiverse reforestation projects. 1.6 billion people, including a substantial percentage of indigenous communities, are dependent on forests for their most basic needs, including food, medicine, livelihoods, and fuel. 

Yet funding for indigenous communities that want to advance and monetize biodiverse reforestation at scale is limited in emerging economies in SE Asia, Africa and Latin America because: 1) Carbon credit ROI is too long; funders are reluctant to invest in 40-year projects with no return for 5 years. 2) Distinguishing quality projects is difficult, increasing risk for investors. 3) Native, biodiverse restoration is more expensive than monocultures, because of a need for specialized nurseries and technically-skilled workers. 4) Organizations with the know-how and the will to reforest at scale do not have the training and experience to put together long-term, investible projects and attract funding for them.

The Seed to Carbon Forest Accelerator is designed to address those four bottlenecks and attract financing to biodiverse reforestation projects (with at least 5 native species) for vulnerable communities that are often overlooked.
