Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Terreform ONE's public outreach extends to diverse audiences, particularly focusing on engaging local BIPOC communities in Brooklyn and beyond. Through collaborative programming, the organization hosts events, workshops, and conversations, aiming to reflect the diversity of the New York region. ONE Lab, Terreform’s education platform, provides mentorship and workshops to BIPOC Brooklyn high schoolers interested in sustainable design. Our programs aim to offset barriers to education through scholarships and introducing professional pathways to emerging sustainability industries. Last year, we evolved our programming to partner with the Brooklyn STEAM Center and HE3AT Program (DOE, Newlab, & NYCEDC) to directly serve local high school students, approximately 93% of whom are Black or Hispanic. Terreform ONE expands its reach through public events like The Spring Market, NYCxDesign, TED World Science Festival, and more, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and industry crossovers. In 2024, we plan to enhance engagement with workshops and seminars at institutions like Black Rock Forest, NYU, and Storm King Art Center, educating a wide audience on regenerative design. As the flagship project, Fab Tree Hab embodies all socio-ecological design principles taught via ONE Lab, serving as a living classroom and observatory for pedagogical programs, enabling fieldwork and experimentation.
