Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The use of hybrid energy in The Gambia may be difficult because of fundamental issues such as high photovoltaic (PV) module damage due to high infrared radiation and low wind speed in most regions of the country. The statement of the problem this research seeks to answer is the viability of deploying renewable energy sources (i.e., solar and wind energy) to agriculture production and processing equipment in The Gambia. The focus of the study is on how to optimize PV module and wind generation systems to improve power delivery and boost agriculture production. The results is a road map for decarbonizing the food supply chain and the framework that now governs food policy. The renewable energy technologies (RETs) and sources propose in the study can reduce the CO2 emissions of the agriculture sector. The study is salient and timely as it is cost-effective in the long run and prevents damage to agriculture products production and processing due to erratic power supply. Furthermore, the actualization of this project will increase the profit margin of farmers (youths, women and others) as less expenditure will be devoted to energy and repairs of the equipment especially in the underrepresented rural and urban settlements.
