Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
In Taita Taveta County women and youth face unique and disproportionate challenges e.g. limited access to capital and technology, primary responsibility for nurturing families, teen pregnancy, education disruptions, firewood collection and fetching water for domestic use. Our model empowers these women and youth as follows: Empowerment through Education: knowledge about climate change and its impacts, the green economy e.g. carbon credits, biofuels, and cottage industries enabled by such forestation projects e.g. oil/soap production, apiculture (beekeeping), briquettes as a charcoal alternative. Empowerment through Implementation: develop competency and capacity while partnering with us to implement these socio - economic and environmental solutions via acquired technical skills. Empowerment through realized economic capacity and financial gains: the income and profits generated, as well as other derivative benefits of this project (e.g. a positive microclimate) will result in a permanent financial and economic stimulus with the derivative benefits pertaining to the same for these women, youth, and their communities. This inclusive strategy leverages the unique capacity of these groups, fostering a more equitable and sustainable approach to climate action. At maturity, this is a complete lifecycle project. All involved and directly benefiting from the project are people of color living in climate vulnerable communities.
