Primary Project Category:
Name of Project:
Year Project Originated:
Project Summary / Description:
We are planting income producing fruit trees at local schools in Kawambwa. We train the students and teachers in tree planting and maintenance and the schools keep the profits from the sale of fruits for the benefit of the schools.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
We train the students in tree planting and maintenence. Approx. 50% of the students are female and all are youths. We encourage the students to bring trees back to their villages where most of parents are subsistence farmers, in order to create an additional climate resilient source of income. Unlike traditional crops which will die in drought...just a few trees can significantly increase income and can be bucket watered in the event of a lack of rain.
