How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project directly empowers underrepresented groups, particularly women and rural communities, by providing them with access to sustainable energy solutions and income-generating opportunities. In rural areas of Benin, where deforestation and reliance on traditional cooking methods are significant issues, our green charcoal offers an eco-friendly alternative, reducing the environmental burden on vulnerable communities. Women, who are disproportionately affected by the lack of clean cooking energy, benefit directly from our project. By providing access to affordable, sustainable charcoal, we reduce their time and financial burden spent on gathering firewood or purchasing traditional charcoal. Additionally, we actively recruit women to manage our sales units, creating jobs and enhancing their economic independence. Our focus on youth empowerment is also central to our mission. We offer training in green charcoal production, providing young people with valuable skills in sustainable agriculture, energy production, and entrepreneurship. By creating jobs and training opportunities, we contribute to the socio-economic development of youth in rural communities. By including these underrepresented groups in our workforce and as beneficiaries, our project promotes inclusivity and ensures that those most affected by climate change are equipped with the tools and resources to combat it.
