Project Summary / Description:
Durable, long-life, low-cost, low-Earth-impact, super-insulated, non-combustible, Earth-shelterable, to survive global climate change (GCC) driven severe weather and high-temperatures, while protecting occupants. Humanity will need billions of durable, low-cost, low-Earth-impact small buildings in the next few decades, for protection from these rapidly-worsening dangers; these must be provided by private enterprise, a multi-billion-dollar-annually business opportunity. Our company must now: (a) scale-up our successful scale-model, proof-of-concept prototype for quasi-spherical, thin-shell-concrete small buildings; (b) research their durability for engineering and building permit certification, and for the finance, insurance, and appraisal industries; (c) find customers via several business model alternatives; (d) launch a complete, mature, business collaboration with stronger companies and enterprises; (e) proliferate on-site manufacturing worldwide via a network of builders and franchisees and their customers. No competitors are pursuing our on-site manufacturing process, which minimizes the amount and value of materials, tools, and expert labor imported. Our company has a technical and market position lead, as a 34-year-old, profit-motivated, startup RD&D company: www.AlaskaAppliedSciences.com Concrete industry innovations will be difficult to patent, protect, and enforce; trade secrets and market position are our IP. Founded 1990 in Juneau, Alaska to engineer and launch novel renewables-source energy systems, science education, and building technologies for mitigation of, and adaptation to, both GHG emission and multiple, rapidly-advancing GCC-driven dangers. Co founders: Nancy Waterman (BA Education, SUNY) and Bill Leighty (BS Electrical Engineering, MBA, Stanford)
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The project does not, yet, because we have no employees working on it. Availability of high-volume manufacturing of robust, long-life, low-cost, and well-insulated small buildings, useful for housing and many other needs, will especially help low-income, under-resourced people worldwide to improve their quality of life and reduce their impact on Earth.
