Project Summary / Description:
The AtoANI iCROP Carbon Sequestration Program is a data-driven, regenerative agriculture initiative that enables smallholder farmers in the Philippines to sequester carbon, reduce emissions, and increase income through sustainable farming and carbon finance. At the core of the program is iCROP, a data-driven produce-to-demand platform that prevents crop overproduction and food waste by aligning farm production with real market demand. This system reduces upstream emissions while optimizing land use and resource efficiency. Farmers are trained to adopt regenerative practices such as composting, crop diversification, reduced synthetic fertilizer use, and soil cover management, methods that increase soil organic carbon. AtoANI currently works with 209 farmers across 11 communities, achieving verified annual impacts of: (1) 1,662 tons of carbon dioxide sequestered, (2) 344 tons of synthetic fertilizers avoided, (3) 70.1 tons of food waste prevented, and (4) 10% to 15% increase in farmer income The program integrates digital MRV (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification) using farm data, remote sensing, and machine learning to quantify carbon sequestration in real time. This enables farmers to access the voluntary carbon market, where carbon credits are monetized and revenues are shared directly with farming communities. By combining data, regenerative agriculture, and climate finance, AtoANI creates a scalable model that transforms farms into verified carbon sinks while improving food system resilience and farmer livelihoods. The platform is designed for replication across crops and regions, positioning smallholder farmers as frontline climate solution providers.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
The AtoANI iCROP Carbon Sequestration Program reduces greenhouse gas emissions by increasing soil carbon storage through regenerative farming practices while preventing emissions from food waste and excessive fertilizer use. By shifting farmers away from synthetic inputs, optimizing crop production to actual market demand, and improving soil health, the program avoids nitrous oxide emissions and captures atmospheric carbon in the soil. Through its digital MRV system, AtoANI quantifies these reductions, ensuring verified and scalable climate impact across farming communities.
