Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

Guatemala is among the top 10 countries most vulnerable to climate change and 80% of indigenous people in the country experience multiple forms of deprivation in their lives, including food insecurity, malnutrition, and a lack of basic health and education services. Only 10% of indigenous women work in the formal sector and almost 70% cannot read or write.
The key populations we work with, as both our participants and staff team, are indigenous Mayan women who experience multiple, intersecting forms of marginalisation and a lack of visibility in local, national and international decision-making spaces. 
Our programmes are co-created and facilitated for and by indigenous and rural women with low literacy skills, many of whom have never had the opportunity to pursue an education. Our theory of change is grounded in the vision of women as champions of climate action who build thriving and resilient rural communities and ecosystems, through self-managed access to clean energy, regenerative agricultural livelihoods and participatory education.

Mission Statement:

Our mission is to provide access to education and training opportunities for women and girls from the most vulnerable and marginalised rural communities in Latin America and the Caribbean, enabling them to build the skills and knowledge necessary to be catalysts for change for themselves, their families and their communities.
