Project Summary / Description:
The Farmer School México - Farm Renovation (2025-2027) is a transformative initiative aimed at empowering smallholder women coffee farmers in Mexico. By addressing critical challenges such as low productivity, limited market access, and gender-related barriers, the program equips women farmers with the tools to build thriving, climate-resilient farm businesses.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Farmer School Mexico empowers underrepresented groups, specifically smallholder women coffee farmers in Latin America, who are disproportionately impacted by climate change and economic volatility. These women face significant barriers to accessing resources, training, and decision-making opportunities, which our project addresses through a combination of gender-sensitive training, mentorship, and seed capital. By focusing on these women, we help build climate resilience on their farms, ensuring long-term sustainability in the face of shifting environmental conditions. Our organization is deeply committed to representation, with many of our team members hailing from the communities we serve. We prioritize the inclusion of women in leadership roles within our programs, both at the organizational level and in our advisory committees. Our work ensures that women are not only participants but also leaders in shaping climate solutions for their communities. Additionally, our programs promote equal access to training and mentorship, empowering women to take active roles in building resilient and sustainable businesses, which fosters greater climate adaptation. By elevating the voices and leadership of underrepresented women farmers, our project challenges gender norms in the agricultural sector, promoting equity and social justice while simultaneously driving climate action.
