Primary Project Category:
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project empowers underrepresented groups in the climate movement by 1. championing inclusivity within our organisation and 2. through the broader impact of our work. Biophilica’s leadership team includes women in key positions like our founder and CEO, Mira Nameth (Cartier Women’s Initiative Awardee) and Dr Claudia Bertei as Head of R&D. Our board consists of 66% women. Our team includes individuals from different cultural and professional backgrounds, diversifying Biophilica’s perspectives to our climate solutions. Treekind® itself is designed to address environmental challenges disproportionately affecting climate-vulnerable communities, impacted by deforestation and water scarcity. By replacing environmentally destructive materials (leather and petrochemical-based alternatives) we aim to mitigate climate effects disproportionately harming marginalised communities. Our partnerships with global brands create opportunities to integrate sustainable practices into supply chains, benefiting workers in regions impacted by the fashion and materials industries. We engage youth audiences, particularly millennials and Gen Z through working with sustainable fashion brands, meeting their demand for environmentally and socially responsible products. By promoting inclusivity in our workplace, advancing equitable climate solutions and partnering with brands that prioritise ethical practices, Treekind® supports a diverse and inclusive climate movement.
