How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Botanic Treasures is deeply committed to empowering underrepresented groups in the climate movement, particularly women, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities. Our operations directly involve over 6,000 smallholder farmers, 70% of whom are women. Through our “Inua Mama” program, we help women lease land as a group to grow moringa, increasing their incomes and fostering financial independence. Women are also prioritized in our employment structure, comprising 70% of our permanent and seasonal workforce at post-harvest hubs, where they play critical roles in food handling and processing. We work with youth in climate-vulnerable communities, providing training in agroecology, composting, and sustainable farming practices. These skills not only improve their livelihoods but also make them key actors in land restoration and climate adaptation efforts. By onboarding youth and farmers in collaboration with NGOs like Utooni Development and Village Capital, we amplify their voices in the agroecological and climate resilience movements. Internally, our leadership team reflects this commitment. Women, including our founder Elizabeth Mbogo, hold prominent leadership roles. We ensure that representation is not just tokenistic but integral to our mission, creating pathways for marginalized groups to actively participate in and benefit from climate solutions.
