Project Summary / Description:
The mission of ChemChemAgro is to sustainably transform beekeeping in the Democratic Republic of Congo by combining technological innovation, environmental protection, and community inclusion. Through its brand Miel du Volcan and its digital platform Api Connect, the organization modernizes the beekeeping sector by integrating IoT sensors and artificial intelligence to monitor apiaries, optimize their management, and provide beekeepers with essential data on environmental conditions, pesticide risks, and best beekeeping practices. ChemChemAgro also strengthens the ecological and economic resilience of local communities through: a training apiary dedicated to modern and sustainable beekeeping; a nursery of melliferous and fruit trees to support biodiversity, improve pollination, and address climate change challenges. In addition, ChemChemAgro works with cocoa, coffee, and banana farmers to integrate beekeeping into their plantations. This approach creates a natural synergy: bees pollinate the crops, improving fruiting and crop quality, while the plantations provide bees with a rich and protected environment. This integrated system diversifies smallholder farmers’ incomes through the sale of honey and value-added products, while sustainably increasing the productivity of cocoa, coffee, and banana plantations.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
The ChemChemAgro project impacts greenhouse gas emissions by capturing carbon through the integration of beehives in cocoa, coffee, and banana plantations and the promotion of honey and fruit tree planting, which stores CO₂ in trees and soils. Its Api Connect platform, using IoT sensors and artificial intelligence, optimizes apiary management, provides environmental data, and reduces pesticide risks. This system reinforces sustainable agroecological practices, increases productivity, and supports a resilient agricultural model.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
ChemChemAgro is committed to empowering underrepresented groups, including women, young people and climate-vulnerable rural communities, by providing them with economic opportunities and skills to adapt to environmental challenges. 1. Inclusion of women: Over 60% of our management team is made up of women in key positions in finance, marketing, production and project management. We also prioritize training for women beekeepers, strengthening their economic independence in a traditionally male-dominated sector. 2. Support for young people : We actively involve young people in our training initiatives and in the use of our Api Connect platform, fostering their engagement in technological and innovative climate solutions. 3. Support for rural communities: Our beekeeping training programs target rural areas, often those most affected by climate change. We work with these communities to introduce sustainable practices, build resilience and improve their incomes through honey production and the sale of honey trees. Representation: These groups are integrated into our organizational structure, participating in strategic decision-making. By supporting marginalized communities and giving them a voice, we make the climate an inclusive and participatory cause.
