How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Climate Shield Uganda (CSU) empowers underrepresented groups, including women, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities, by making them central to its initiatives. Women, who are often primary caregivers and heavily reliant on natural resources, are engaged as leaders in sustainable practices, such as improved cookstove adoption and agroforestry. CSU provides them with training, tools, and opportunities to generate income, fostering economic empowerment alongside environmental stewardship. Youth are engaged as climate ambassadors through education, capacity-building workshops, and leadership programs. They are trained in renewable energy technologies, reforestation practices, and advocacy, positioning them as changemakers within their communities and the broader climate movement. Climate-vulnerable communities are directly involved in designing and implementing CSU’s programs to ensure solutions are locally relevant and culturally inclusive. By integrating traditional ecological knowledge with modern climate strategies, CSU ensures these communities retain agency over their resources while enhancing resilience. Within CSU’s organizational structure, these groups are represented at all levels, from community advisory boards to project leadership roles. This participatory approach ensures their voices drive decision-making and that their unique challenges and perspectives shape project priorities. Empowering underrepresented groups not only amplifies their voices in the climate movement but also fosters inclusive, sustainable solutions for long-term impact.
