How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
DEC is committed to empowering underrepresented groups, particularly women, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities. Through our "Her Farm, Her Future" initiative, we prioritize outreach and product accessibility for women farmers, addressing their unique challenges in agricultural productivity and financial stability. This initiative focuses on providing training, subsidies, and mentorship, enabling women to adopt biochar fertilizers and increase their crop yields sustainably. In our workforce, 42% of employees and 38% of management roles are held by women, reflecting DEC’s commitment to gender equity and inclusive development. We anticipate that this ratio will continue to 60% female employment in the coming year. We actively recruit youth from rural communities, equipping them with technical skills in biochar production and distribution, creating career opportunities in the green economy. Additionally, DEC works in climate-vulnerable regions, offering affordable, climate-resilient solutions to smallholder farmers who face declining soil fertility and extreme weather conditions. By integrating these groups into our value chain—as employees, suppliers, and customers—DEC ensures their representation and empowerment while building resilient, inclusive communities.
