Project Summary / Description:
D-Olivette’s 1,000,000 Closed-Loop Homes & Farms Project aims to empower over one million households and farms to utilize its AI-powered and Sensor-IoT-enabled biodigesters that efficiently process various types of organic waste, transforming it into biogas for cooking and electricity, as well as nutrient-rich fertilizers for soil enrichment & organic livestock feed. To accomplish this project, D-Olivette engages with local communities, providing training and resources to ensure effective use of its biodigesters. Collaborations with farmers, women’s associations, and community groups facilitate widespread adoption and support. Additionally, D-Olivette implements awareness campaigns on the benefits of waste management and renewable energy, fostering community buy-in. By creating closed-loop systems, the project significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, promotes regenerative agriculture, and enhances food security while generating economic opportunities. This holistic approach not only addresses climate challenges but also empowers communities to achieve sustainable development and energy independence.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
D-Olivette’s project is deeply rooted in empowering underrepresented groups, including women, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities in Africa and beyond. We focus on underserved rural women, particularly those engaged in smallholder farming, who are often most impacted by energy poverty and environmental degradation. Our biodigester solutions enable these women to generate clean energy and agricultural inputs from organic waste, reducing their reliance on firewood and charcoal, which are harmful to both health and the environment. This approach significantly lowers household expenses and improves health outcomes, creating economic resilience and climate security. We work closely with local savers clubs and women’s cooperatives, providing affordable payment options, training, and ongoing support to maximize their success. In our organization, women represent a significant portion of our leadership and field teams, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity. Youth engagement is another pillar, as we partner with local schools and institutions to inspire climate action and build sustainable skills among young people. By directly involving these groups in our operations and decision-making processes, D-Olivette ensures they have agency and opportunity within the climate movement. Our project not only addresses their immediate needs but empowers them to be champions of climate resilience in their communities.
