How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
1.Women: Women constitute the majority of the small-scale agricultural labor force in Kenya and sub-Saharan Africa. Our technology directly benefits them, with 65% of our users being women. To amplify this impact, we intentionally ensure that 60% of our workforce comprises women, empowering them economically and socially through both agricultural and organizational roles. 2.Youth: We prioritize hiring youth from rural, marginalized communities, providing meaningful employment opportunities and pathways for career growth. A notable example is Joshua Lasipunye, a young Moran who transitioned from cattle herding to becoming our Regional Head for the Oloile and Kimana regions. This highlights our commitment to nurturing talent and leadership among underserved youth. 3.People of color: As our primary beneficiaries, we design solutions tailored to their needs. Recognizing their financial constraints, we charge an affordable $3 monthly subscription instead of the prohibitive $100 per hour for drones or $60 per visit for agronomists. Additionally, we translate recommendations into local languages, ensuring accessibility and comprehension. 4.Climate-vulnerable communities: These communities are at the forefront of climate-induced shocks, bearing disproportionate impacts. We target these underserved populations with a cash-back guarantee, ensuring they experience at least a 45% income increase in their first planting season using our devices.
