Project Summary / Description:
Agriculture and GHG emissions are a double burden as agriculture suffers from the effect of GHC emissions while also greatly contributing to it. The CAFAESUP project is an integrated multi-sectoral intervention against hunger, poverty, and climate change while creating green job opportunities for small-scale youth and women farmers in local communities. It integrates end-to-end data-driven decision-making, through capacity building for the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices, digital quantification of farm-gate CO2 emission and sequestration, incentivization of smallholder farmers through carbon financing, and facilitation of market linkages. The project endeavours to build resilient climate change while improving income, nutrition and food security.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The CAFAESUP project empowers underrepresented groups, including women, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities, by providing them with opportunities to engage in sustainable agricultural practices and benefit from the carbon credits market. By focusing on smallholder farmers in Kenya and Tanzania, many of whom are from rural and marginalized communities, the project directly targets individuals who are often excluded from mainstream climate solutions. We aim for 60% of the farmers we onboard to be women and youth, ensuring they are active participants in the climate solution. Through capacity-building programs on regenerative agriculture and carbon sequestration, women and youth gain access to improved livelihoods and economic opportunities, fostering resilience in the face of climate change. Our organization, we prioritizes diversity and inclusion. Our team includes individuals from diverse backgrounds, and we ensure equal opportunities for underrepresented groups in our teams, including local field officers. We also empower these groups by involving them in decision-making processes and ensuring their voices are heard, especially in the context of community mobilization and implementation. By integrating these groups into the climate action framework, we contribute to their empowerment and ensure they have the tools, resources, and platforms to actively shape a more sustainable and equitable future.
