Project Summary / Description:
HRNS has supported the creation of the CS region in the Department of Ocotepeque, Honduras since 2018, in collaboration with the Trifinio Commission and other partners. Bordering the Trifinio-Fraternidad biosphere, activities work to create effective buffer zones around protected biodiversity areas while contributing to sustainable livelihoods for inhabitants, promoting the advancement of an inclusive and region-specific development model which integrates agroecological and climate-smart practices into economic growth strategies at the landscape level.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
women and youth will experience transformative improvements and empowerment by becoming central agents of change in their communities. The initiative will provide tailored training and capacity-building programs to equip women and young people with the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to lead climate-smart practices and sustainable development efforts. By fostering entrepreneurship, especially in green industries, and creating access to economic opportunities, we will help women achieve financial independence and young people unlock their potential for innovation. Moreover, the project will promote leadership development by actively involving women and youth in decision-making processes, ensuring their voices shape climate and development strategies. This inclusive approach will not only enhance their self-confidence but also foster a sense of ownership and accountability for sustainable solutions. By addressing systemic barriers and creating pathways for equitable participation, the initiative will drive long-lasting social change, empowering women and youth to build resilient, thriving communities while championing climate action.
