How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Greenstand’s project empowers underrepresented groups, particularly women, people of color, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities, by providing economic opportunities through its tree-growing framework. Many participants in Greenstand’s initiatives come from remote, economically disadvantaged regions in Africa, Asia, and the Americas, where opportunities for sustainable livelihoods are limited. By incentivizing tree care and linking payments to verified environmental impact, the project creates pathways out of poverty while addressing climate change. The organization actively collaborates with local community leaders to ensure inclusivity, particularly prioritizing women and youth in its programs. For instance, Greenstand’s pay-to-grow model directly supports women who often face economic barriers, enabling them to contribute to and benefit from reforestation efforts. Youth are engaged through training and participation in planting and monitoring activities, building a new generation of environmental stewards. Within the organization, Greenstand promotes diversity in its leadership and operations. Its board includes individuals with expertise in environmental science, social justice, and community development, representing global perspectives. Additionally, Greenstand’s open-source model brings together contributors from around the world, fostering a collaborative and inclusive approach to tackling climate and social challenges. Empowerment through equitable participation is at the core of Greenstand’s mission.
