Project Summary / Description:
The Climate-Smart Agriculture and Women’s Empowerment Initiative by Imbita Swaziland Women’s Finance Trust promotes sustainable farming practices to address climate change and enhance food security in Eswatini. Through training, resource access, and financial inclusion, the initiative empowers women-led self-help groups to adopt eco-friendly agricultural techniques, improve livelihoods, and strengthen community resilience.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project directly empowers women, especially those from climate-vulnerable rural communities, by providing them with the tools, resources, and financial independence needed to address both climate change and socio-economic inequality. Through our self-help group model, women gain access to microloans, training in climate-smart agriculture, and a platform to lead initiatives in their communities. This model not only enhances their resilience to climate impacts but also positions them as leaders in the climate movement, traditionally underrepresented in decision-making and environmental policy. Women in rural Eswatini, particularly from areas like Lomahasha and Shewula, are at the forefront of this initiative, taking charge of sustainable agricultural practices that mitigate the effects of climate change. Their leadership is integral to the project’s success, and they are actively involved in decision-making processes, ensuring that the solutions are culturally relevant and community-driven. Our organization is led by a diverse team, with key leadership roles held by women, ensuring that those directly impacted by climate change have a voice in the design and execution of our programs. We prioritize gender equity and inclusivity in our staffing and outreach efforts, making sure marginalized communities are not only represented but are also given the tools to drive meaningful change.
