Project Summary / Description:
The implementation of biomass pellet stoves and burners is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across Nepal. This project replaces traditional fuels like wood and LPG with efficient biomass pellet technology, offering significant environmental and economic benefits. Key activities under this initiative include: Direct Installations: Installing stoves and burners while providing training for effective operation. Dealership Collaborations: Partnering with local dealerships to expand market access. Manufacturer Facilitation: Enabling MSMEs to directly purchase stoves from manufacturers with technical and operational support. Awareness Campaigns: Promoting the benefits of biomass technology and facilitating access to high-quality pellets. This initiative has been implemented across diverse industries, including sweet shops, food processing units, and packaging factories, with a total of 23 pellet burners, 10 combo fryers/khuwa makers, and 14 top-load earth stoves installed. With a total investment of NPR 24,631,500, the project has showcased the viability of biomass technology in reducing operational costs and environmental impact.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
JDNE empowers underrepresented groups, particularly women, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities, by actively involving them in renewable energy projects and creating employment opportunities. We prioritize hiring local people for marketing and outreach efforts, ensuring that these communities are not only informed but also involved in promoting clean energy solutions. Women, in particular, are a focus of our efforts. We provide training in technical skills such as stove installation and solar panel maintenance, empowering women to become skilled technicians and entrepreneurs. This approach helps create gender equality in the clean energy sector and provides women with sustainable livelihoods. JDNE also conducts product demonstrations and awareness campaigns in local communities, ensuring that all groups, including youth and vulnerable populations, are informed about the benefits of biomass and solar energy. We offer hands-on training to ensure these groups have the technical resources to adopt and maintain these technologies, creating a lasting impact in their communities. Additionally, we ensure that our products and services are accessible by offering flexible payment plans and facilitating local access to biomass pellets and solar products. This approach fosters inclusion, ensures equitable opportunities for underrepresented groups, and accelerates the transition to sustainable energy while supporting local economic development.
