Primary Project Category:
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Kyuka Ventures actively empowers underrepresented groups, including women, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities, by integrating them into our operations and leadership. We work with 150 women and youth plastic waste collectors, providing them with stable income opportunities and technical training. On average, these workers earn $5.75 daily, supporting their families and improving their livelihoods. Our "Waste Insure" program targets low-income households, allowing them to exchange plastic waste for health insurance. This program currently benefits 750 families in slum areas, ensuring access to healthcare for vulnerable groups. Women and children, often disproportionately affected by indoor air pollution and inadequate healthcare, are direct beneficiaries of this initiative. Within our organization, 60% of leadership positions are held by women, reflecting our commitment to gender equity. We also partner with local community groups to mentor and engage youth, fostering climate awareness and green job opportunities. By creating inclusive economic opportunities and addressing systemic inequities, Kyuka Ventures ensures that marginalized groups are at the forefront of our climate action. Our model demonstrates that addressing climate challenges can simultaneously tackle poverty and inequality, empowering underrepresented communities to drive sustainable change
