['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Let's Go Compost empowers underrepresented groups through a decentralized approach to waste diversion and hands-on educational programming, addressing systemic inequities in waste management systems. Traditional waste infrastructure disproportionately impacts marginalized communities, often placing landfills and waste facilities near low-income populations, exposing them to air and water pollutants without providing tangible benefits. The project shifts this paradigm, enabling schools—many located in underserved areas—to manage organic waste locally, reducing reliance on centralized disposal systems. Youth engagement forms a core component of the initiative, integrating composting education into STEM curricula to equip students with practical skills and pathways to the green economy. The project specifically targets schools in communities historically underrepresented in climate action, including those with higher proportions of students of color and low-income families, ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities. Women and caregivers, who often play critical roles in community organizing and household waste management, are empowered through training and involvement in school-based composting programs. These efforts build local leadership and capacity, creating economic and educational opportunities. Representation within the organization aligns with this mission, prioritizing partnerships with local leaders and educators reflective of the communities served. This approach ensures that solutions address localized needs while advancing equity and inclusivity.
