Project Summary / Description:
Tomato Thrive is a transformative initiative aimed at equipping women and youth farmers with the skills, knowledge, and tools needed to turn surplus tomatoes into high-quality tomato paste, ensuring reduced post-harvest losses and increased economic opportunities. The program focuses on: 1. Training: Providing hands-on workshops in tomato paste production, preservation techniques, and food safety standards. 2. Entrepreneurship: Teaching participants marketing strategies, branding, and business management skills to successfully sell their products. 3. Sustainability: Encouraging environmentally friendly practices in farming, processing, and packaging. 4. Community Growth: Building a network of empowered farmers who can collaborate, innovate, and share resources for mutual success. This initiative not only enhances livelihoods but also fosters food security and economic independence for women and youth in agriculture.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Through my CBO that I've been working with Kenyan youth, campaigning for peace after the 2007 post elections violence that nearly wiped out Kenya. We have empwerd a lot of women and youth that are working in different sectors having formed their own CBOs.
