How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Mati Carbon was founded with a mission to build climate resilience among smallholder farmers in the Global South and to address the critical $300 billion climate adaptation gap. We partner with indigenous communities, and focus on empowering women farmers who are key to agricultural productivity and community well-being. In India, 40% of our farmer partners are women, and in Zambia and Tanzania, this is about 70%. These women often lack access to climate adaptation resources and are disproportionately affected by climate impacts, including income losses from extreme weather events. By providing Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) solutions at no cost, Mati helps farmers improve soil health, boost crop yields, and reduce reliance on chemical inputs, leading to increased annual incomes of c.$300 in India and up to $400 in Africa. This is transformative for women farmers, who reinvest their earnings into their families and communities, amplifying the socioeconomic impact. Mati also provides training in sustainable farming practices and supports women’s leadership within farming communities. By prioritizing gender equity and working closely with indigenous and rural populations, Mati ensures that climate solutions are inclusive, scalable, and impactful, bridging the climate adaptation gap while fostering long-term resilience and sustainability.
