How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Mosan empowers underrepresented groups in the climate movement through a co-creative approach that actively involves the local population in the design and innovation processes of our sanitation solutions. By prioritizing community input, we ensure that our initiatives meet the specific needs and cultural contexts of those we serve. Our team reflects this commitment, with 70% of our members being indigenous people, which brings valuable insights and perspectives to our work. We focus on empowerment of women by focusing on inclusive design and capacity-building initiatives in sanitation solutions. This not only enhances their roles in decision-making but also promotes gender equality within the community. Additionally, we work closely with indigenous farmers to build their capacity in utilizing biochar, creating a direct link between sustainable agriculture practices and climate resilience. By fostering relationships with vulnerable communities, we not only bring their voices into the climate dialogue but also equip them with the tools and knowledge necessary to address environmental challenges. This holistic approach not only uplifts these communities but also strengthens our efforts in promoting sustainable and inclusive climate solutions. More on this approach is described Mosan's 2021 publication "Mosan: Combining Circularity and Participatory Design to Address Sanitation in Low-Income Communities".
