Project Summary / Description:
The Precious Cargo Biodiversity Expedition aims to create a bridge between Western & Indigenous knowledge systems. In our effort to create forward-thinking exhibitions for nature kind - we embark on this voyage - to learn and create with community.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our fiscal sponsor, Remote Ecologist, provides local fishermen with a living wage so they needn't overfish. Their CEO Dr. Hudson is in touch with Indigenous communities living in the surroundings of Santa Marta. When I arrive in Santa Marta in March, I will travel up the mountain to meet the Kogi people with Swiss Mountaineer and Land Artist, Manuela Fischer. (Fischer will meet the AVONTUUR in Guatemala City and sail with the crew for the last two weeks of the voyage). Crystals are important to the Kogi people. Fischer's Art & Astrophysics project on the ship incorporates crystals. (Additionally, Max Planck Institute has granted me permission to show the first ever video of a Space Time Crystal, which I've shown previously at the University of Maine. A Space Time Crystal reverts the rules of physics as once in motion, as it says in motion forever). We plan to gift crystals collected from the melting glaciers in the Alps to the Kogi when we visit their mountain top. I also plant to pay them to join in our exhibition. I hope to include Indigenous Colombian art in our replica exhibitions but I don't know how this will happen until Spring.
