Primary Project Category:
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project empowers underrepresented groups, particularly women, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities, by integrating them into our value chain. In Uganda and Zimbabwe, women and youth constitute a significant portion of smallholder farmers and market vendors who face disproportionate challenges due to post-harvest losses and climate vulnerabilities. Through training programs, we equip them with the skills to operate solar-powered IoT cooling hubs and apply MunaFresh® edible coatings, enhancing their productivity and incomes. Our hubs provide affordable access to storage, enabling these groups to preserve perishable goods, reduce food waste, and extend market access. By offering financing solutions tied to stored goods as collateral, we create opportunities for economic empowerment. Representation is a core value of our organization. Women and youth are actively involved in leadership roles, operations, and community outreach initiatives. For instance, 60% of our community trainers and local implementation partners are women, ensuring their perspectives are incorporated. By empowering underrepresented groups and fostering inclusivity, our project strengthens their resilience to climate change, enhances economic opportunities, and creates a more equitable agricultural system. This approach positions these groups as leaders and key beneficiaries in the transition to sustainable climate solutions.
