Project Summary / Description:

The techno-sustainable greenhouse in Despeñaderos is an innovative project that combines advanced technology with sustainable agricultural practices to mitigate climate change and promote the economic and social development of the local community. Launched in 2024 as part of a comprehensive municipal strategy, this greenhouse aims to optimize natural resources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and empower rural communities.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:

['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

The Despeñaderos Techno-Sustainable Greenhouse empowers underrepresented groups, including women, youth, and rural communities, by creating inclusive employment opportunities and actively involving them in climate change mitigation.
The project prioritizes hiring women, who form a significant part of the workforce, strengthening their economic and social roles in the community. Additionally, young people under 30 receive training in advanced technologies, such as automated irrigation systems and solar panels, as well as sustainable cultivation of lavender, salvias, tulips, cut flowers, and aromatic plants.
These groups are further represented through community workshops that educate local farmers on sustainable agricultural practices and environmentally responsible techniques, fostering empowerment and climate resilience.
By integrating these groups into sustainable economic activities, the project not only addresses climate change but also reduces inequalities, serving as an inclusive development model for rural communities.
