Primary Project Category:
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Nipe Fagio’s Zero Waste Project empowers underrepresented and underserved groups, including waste pickers, women, youth, and marginalized populations in Tanzania. Through the establishment of Zero Waste cooperatives, Nipe Fagio formalizes the roles of waste pickers and provides them with training in waste segregation, collection, and recycling. This enables them to develop valuable skills, secure sustainable livelihoods, and gain social recognition within their communities. Women and youth, often excluded from formal economic opportunities, are actively engaged in these cooperatives, promoting economic empowerment and equity. For underserved populations in low-income areas, the Zero Waste Project improves access to essential waste management services. Nipe Fagio works directly with these communities to raise awareness about waste reduction and recycling, ensuring their voices are represented in environmental decision-making processes. By fostering inclusivity and providing opportunities, the project strengthens community resilience and encourages local leadership in sustainable practices. This model transforms waste management into a tool for social inclusion, environmental justice, and economic empowerment.
