Primary Project Category:
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project empowers underrepresented groups by focusing on women, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities, especially refugees and caregivers of children with nodding syndrome, in Northern Uganda. These groups often face significant barriers to economic opportunities and environmental justice. By providing training in briquette production, the project helps participants develop sustainable livelihoods while reducing their dependence on traditional, environmentally harmful energy sources. This not only addresses energy poverty but also promotes gender equity by enabling women, who are primarily responsible for household energy needs, to gain income-generating skills. Youth are engaged as community ambassadors, and we provide mentorship opportunities to build their leadership and entrepreneurial skills. This gives them a stake in climate solutions and equips them with skills for future green job opportunities. Our organization prioritizes inclusive representation, with a leadership team that includes women and individuals with deep ties to the communities we serve. Field staff are selected from the local population, ensuring cultural relevance and trust. We continuously ensure that voices from marginalized communities are central to decision-making and project implementation, ensuring our approach is both empowering and contextually appropriate. This inclusivity strengthens the project’s impact and ensures its sustainability within the communities we aim to serve.
