How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The history of the world is largely a story of groups of people vying for scarce access to harvest carbon in the form of various hydrogen-rich organic (i.e. carbon-based) molecules to feed and fuel themselves, their animals and their machines. In the first era of carbon harvesting, this required land to grow biomass for food, feed and fuel and was carbon neutral, but resulted in a loss of biodiversity and habitat. This was followed by the second era of carbon harvesting where carbon has no longer grown but mined from massive amounts of ancient, buried biomass (in the form of fossil fuels) which mostly has combusted resulting in the release of CO2 in the atmosphere, but did allow humanity to preserve biodiversity and habitat. OCOchem is pioneering the 3rd era of carbon harvesting where CO2 captured from the air is directly converted into organic molecules, via formate, thus skipping the need for grown or mined organic molecules. By doing so, OCOchem’s technology will enable all underrpreneted groups to locally make the organic chemicals, material and fuels they need to survive and thrive directly from carbon resources in the air. This increases equity, reduces inequality of resources and enhances resiliency.
