How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
PYREG’s project focuses on empowering underrepresented groups, particularly rural communities, small and medium-sized agribusinesses, climate-vulnerable populations, and local farmers, by promoting sustainable agriculture and creating equitable opportunities. Rural areas, often excluded from mainstream economic development, benefit through job creation and opportunities across the value chain, from feedstock collection to biochar production and distribution. Small and medium-sized agribusinesses, which often face barriers in accessing financing for advanced climate technologies, gain access to PYREG’s innovative solutions, enabling cost reductions and enhanced profitability. Climate-vulnerable communities are supported through improved soil resilience and reduced dependency on synthetic fertilizers by 60-80%, helping them adapt to the growing challenges of climate change. Local farmers benefit from sustainable biochar applications that enhance soil health, boost crop yields, and lower operational costs, ensuring long-term economic and environmental sustainability. By enabling these transitions, PYREG addresses climate challenges while creating inclusive opportunities for underserved communities.
