Primary Project Category:
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project empowers grassroots recyclers, a highly underrepresented group in the climate movement, many of whom are women in Ecuador. These women, often heads of households, play a crucial role in waste recovery but work under unsafe and informal conditions. ReciApp aims to improve their livelihoods by providing them with the tools and resources to access segregated recyclable materials, ensuring fair compensation and safer working environments. Through this, we also promote a just transition by recognizing and elevating their contribution to waste management and climate solutions. Women are deeply represented in our organization, as our leadership team consists of four women, including our co-founders and key roles in management. This diverse leadership brings a gender-sensitive approach to our work, integrating policies and features that specifically address the needs of female recyclers, such as safety, economic empowerment, and training opportunities. By centering women’s leadership and ensuring their voices are heard in both the development of the app and our partnerships, we aim to create a more inclusive and equitable climate movement, amplifying the impact of grassroots recyclers in Ecuador and beyond.
