How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project, “Reforestation and Carbon Offsetting in Urban Spaces,” places underrepresented groups at the heart of its mission by fostering inclusive participation in climate action. We actively engage women, people of color, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities as key stakeholders and leaders in all project phases—from planning to implementation. By collaborating with local organizations rooted in these communities, we ensure representation and amplify their voices in decision-making processes. Our initiative empowers these groups by providing training and employment opportunities in urban reforestation efforts. We partner with schools and community centers in underserved areas to educate youth about the importance of climate resilience while offering mentorship programs that connect them to green careers. Women and people of color are prioritized in leadership roles within our organization, creating a diverse team that reflects the communities we serve. Additionally, we work to plant trees in neighborhoods disproportionately affected by environmental degradation, mitigating urban heat islands and improving air quality where it’s needed most. By directly addressing inequities in climate vulnerability and access to green infrastructure, our project not only offsets carbon but also builds climate resilience in historically marginalized communities. This inclusive approach ensures our efforts are both equitable and sustainable.
