Empowering Underrepresented Groups The ReFood Network actively empowers underrepresented groups by focusing on inclusive and equitable participation in sustainable food systems. Our initiatives particularly target women, people of color, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities, providing them with education, resources, and market access. Empowerment through Action: Women: We train and support women in sustainable agricultural practices, entrepreneurship, and food processing. In São Paulo, for example, 30 women micro-entrepreneurs run independent kitchens, producing and redistributing nutritious food. Youth: In South Sudan, youth farmers form alliances and access new markets, promoting organic vegetable production and economic independence. People of Color and Climate-Vulnerable Communities: We engage marginalized communities in Kenya and Nigeria, integrating sustainable practices in local food systems to enhance resilience and food security. Representation in Our Organization: Our leadership team reflects this commitment to diversity and inclusion: Ruth Jepchumba: Social entrepreneur from Kenya, leading as President. James Luach: Public health expert from South Sudan, focusing on community health. Bakare Abidemi Abdulfatai: Food technologist from Nigeria, ensuring inclusive project implementation.
