Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

Saf-Aga’s projects are deployed in underserved rural communities, particularly in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria characterized by coastal villages and riverine areas, a population who depends largely on fertile land and waterways for sustenance, and who are negatively impacted by oil exploration activities and climate change effects. Upon site identification but prior to any development activities, the Saf-Aga team actively engages stakeholders in the target community to ensure alignment of interest, create awareness and educate the population on the benefits of clean energy, and gain community support. Through this engagement, Saf-Aga learns about pain points unique to each community which can be addressed by the mini-grid solution, and also gains understanding of the economic opportunities in the communities which youth can be supported to harness by deploying PUE. By doing so, Saf-Aga is able to positively impact vulnerable groups in its target communities not only through the provision of clean, reliable and affordable electricity, but also through access to earning opportunities and businesses which would not have been feasible without electricity, and which empower the population and contribute to economic growth. Saf-Aga also provides training to local technicians, contributing to skill acquisition and ensuring longevity of the deployed mini-grids.
