Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

Our project actively empowers underrepresented groups, particularly women, by providing leadership opportunities in conservation and forest restoration. In rural Colombia, women often have limited economic opportunities due to cultural and social barriers that restrict their access to employment and decision-making roles. By supporting 11 women-led community nurseries, we equip women with the skills, resources, and training necessary to manage sustainable nursery operations. This initiative not only enables them to earn an income and contribute to the local economy but also fosters leadership, empowering women to challenge traditional gender roles and participate more actively in community and environmental conservation.

In Brazil, our forest restoration team is also women-led, with female leaders overseeing the planting and management of native trees in the Atlantic Forest. These women bring essential expertise in forestry and contribute to both environmental and social outcomes. REGUA provides significant administrative and managerial roles for women, offering competitive salaries on par with their male counterparts. With 12 women and 10 men in administrative, managerial, and visitor services roles, including in accounting, human resources, forestry engineering, and research leadership, REGUA sets an example of gender equality in conservation.
