Project Summary / Description:
Our mission is to address climate change by using floating, interlocking bricks made of seaweed composites as the carbon-sequestering marine infrastructure necessary for coastal adaptation to sea level rise and deep water seaweed farming.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The SeaBrick project is aimed at providing benefits for coastal communities who are dependent on the ocean for their economic sustainability, and whose communities and infrastructure face negative impacts from over fishing and rising sea levels. In Canada, outside major centers it is indigenous, rural coastal communities who face the greatest climate risk. As mentioned above, our partner on the first project is the Kwiakah nation who will be taking seats on our board as we move the project forward. We have been consulting with various coastal First Nations for more two years now, and working in partnership with coastal indigenous communities is core to our whole project vision. Once the efficacy of SeaBrick is established through the Kwiakah project, we expect to expand to other Canadian coastal communities, and abroad. We expect the major beneficiaries ultimately to be those second and third world countries, including island states and countries especially vulnerable to rising sea levels such as Bangladesh and Indonesia.
