Primary Project Category:
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
SSC combats extractive industries 'business-as-usual' by maintaining a public awareness of upcoming industrial projects through our workshops. Creating more opportunity for communities to discuss and organize on relevant local & state issues is one of the ways we seek to empower the underrepresented communities we work with. We believe there is a greater national & global community of the disempowered that, if given the proper resources, can convene and mobilize for greater impact through the targeted relief of a community afflicted by predatory corporate, state, and/or federal operations. SSC aims to share the resources communities need to be more interconnected & involved in the systems that affect us all, ultimately creating more active agents of change. By maintaining a high level of accessibility during and leading up to our workshops, more people are able to engage with earthen practice and land-based spaces, furthering the potential to expand their own relationship to land-stewardship. Our funding goes into creating as many opportunities as possible for income-burdened individuals to participate in outdoor education. How better to fight marginalization in wake of climate change than to concretize the sorts of skills that will make survival in the future more responsible and ultimately, possible?

Mission Statement:
At SSC we are committed to jump-starting & supporting the kinds of skill-sets that empower those marginalized by conventional power relations to create their own sustainable, food, resource, and housing projects. Through targeted and accessible workshops, we impart practical skills and theoretical understanding in the areas crucial to climate-conscious living.
