How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project directly empowers underrepresented groups, specifically women in coastal communities of Alor Regency, Indonesia, who are integral yet often overlooked actors in the climate movement. These include women fishmongers managing fish sourcing and marketing and women engaged in mangrove clearing for crab cultivation—both vulnerable to the socio-economic and environmental impacts of climate change. By introducing an innovative barter system, we provide economic incentives for women who previously degraded mangroves to participate in restoration efforts. Simultaneously, we support women fishmongers by integrating them as key facilitators of this exchange, creating a mutually beneficial cycle that links livelihoods with conservation. Our approach equips these women with critical skills in sustainable fisheries, mangrove restoration, and leadership, positioning them as champions of climate action. Within our organization, women occupy central roles in decision-making, project design, and implementation, ensuring that their perspectives and needs shape every aspect of the initiative. This inclusive model not only elevates the voices of women but also integrates them as active stakeholders in addressing climate challenges. By bridging environmental goals with gender equity, we create a replicable framework for empowering underrepresented groups and driving community-led climate solutions.
