How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Few systems have been more detrimental to people of color than the financial sector, which for centuries has perpetuated systemic inequities; limited equitable participation; and underwritten extensive environmental destruction, which disproportionately impacts marginalized communities. This unjust system has thrived because it has historically operated invisibly and prevented consumers from understanding its social injustices. However, we are working to transform this invisible hand of injustice into a visible hand for creating a more just, regenerative world through three efforts: 1) Increase awareness: We shine a floodlight on this system’s intersectional environmental impact to illuminate how our reliance on a misaligned financial system is generating significant harm and to inspire all consumers to use their finances as a force for progress. 2) Build impactful tools: We build tools such as our “Equitable Banking Guide” that enable consumers to leverage their finances and financial relationships to advance equity and justice. 3) Elevate community banks: 99% of all U.S. banks are community banks that play a vital role investing in local communities and creating a more equitable society. We encourage consumers to move at least a portion of their finances to community banks, which drives substantial capital investment into underserved communities at scale.
