How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Ukuzola actively empowers underrepresented groups in the climate movement, particularly women, youth, and communities in the Global South disproportionately affected by climate change. The program reserves 60% of its coliving spots for women entrepreneurs, addressing gender disparities in access to resources and opportunities. Many supported startups are women-led and focus on solutions that promote social inclusion, such as EFA (affordable poultry production with female workforce integration) and Léo BEADS Kreation (training women in artisanal craft for financial independence). Youth representation is central to Ukuzola’s mission, as the majority of supported entrepreneurs are under 35. Ukuzola’s programs equip them with the tools, mentorship, and financial stability to focus fully on their climate innovations, fostering leadership among a demographic often excluded from decision-making processes. Within the organization, Ukuzola’s leadership team reflects its commitment to inclusivity. Women hold key positions, including the founder, community manager, and advisors on gender and CSR. The team’s diverse backgrounds and expertise ensure that the voices of climate-vulnerable communities are embedded in decision-making and program design.
